On-line analyser for measurement of absolute Vapour Pressure of volatile hydrocarbons and therefore a determination for safe transport and flammability of gasoline, diesel fuels, kerosene and jet fuel. Too high Vapour Pressure can cause vapour locks in fuel lines and pumps. When Vapour Pressure is too low it affects the cold-start possibility and it can cause condensation and ice formation in carburetor systems.
The Vapour pressure of a hydrocarbon product depends on the mixture of the many pure components/mixtures with different molecular structures such as straight or side chained paraffin’s, olefins, naphthalene’s, and aromatics having different vapor pressures, boiling points, and molecular masses.
In a product blender for gasoline the Vapour Pressure can be increased by the addition of products with high Vapour Pressure (low-grade butane can then be sold as high-grade benzene). The return-on-investment in a certain installation is relatively quick re-earned.
The analyser can also be calibrated to measure Reid Vapour Pressure and True Vapour Pressure.
