Mercury is a metal which occurs in the environment as a fluid or gas. Mercury vapor is extremely toxic and can cause serious damage to personal health. When the temperature raises the concentration will increase. The maximal allowed concentration over a period of 8 hours is 50 µg//Nm 3 . In most cases a concentration of 25 µgr/Nm 3 is the absolute maximum. The Jerome 431-X portable mercury vapor analyser uses a patented gold film sensor for accurate detection and measurement of toxic mercury vapor in the air. A simple, push-button operation allows users to measure mercury levels from 0 to 999 µg/m 3 in just seconds. The measurement is stable and selective to mercury, eliminating interferences common to ultraviolet analysers, such as water vapor and hydro-carbons. When the sample cycle is activated, the internal pump in the 431-X draws a precise volume of air over the sensor. Mercury in the sample is adsorbed and integrated by the sensor, registering it as proportional change in electrical resistance. The instrument displays the final result in the LCD readout. |
The instrument can be executed with data logger and computer communication interfaces. Applications are mainly used in natural gas industry, mercury application-, cleaning- and recovery installations and at dentists. |
